Well, the news wasn't good for the Pack today. You'd think their hearts were broken or something the way they've been moping around tonight. Brett Favre is retiring. They are seeing their playoff hopes disappearing faster than butter on a bagel fresh out of the toaster! Poor guys. I'm sure it's not as bad as all that....

This blog is open to anyone who wants to chat with me. I am an eccentric person and talk about a wide variety of topics. It is a varied blog in which I discuss spirituality, family, parenting, greener living, composting, organic gardening, home remedies, pets, reading, various crafts, natural remedies for both cleaning and health, cooking, preserving our harvests, and life in general.

About our garden: I have 3-4x12 raised beds maintained in the square foot garden method started as lasagna style soil in the boxes. We have also added a wide variety of fruit trees and bushes throughout our yard, as well as strawberry, rhubarb, and asparagus beds. Recently we also added a vineyard with one of every type of grape that I could fit into the limited space that we have. I have added herbs throughout the landscape and grow a wide variety of both edible and non edible plants. It is my hope that the plants will benefit from the planting arrangements that have been made when I attempt companion plantings for them. We live in northern WI among the pines so sometimes I discuss cold climate gardening as well as dealing with shady conditions and sandy soil.

Ways to make a difference AND save money

Add extra insulation to the attic
Blanket your water heater and pipes
Can and preserve your own food
Compost your garden, household, and yard waste
Don't be afraid of bugs, we need them
Energy efficient appliance use
Fix things that break instead of throwing it away
Go organic
Grow your own vegetable garden
Hang clothes on a clothes line instead of using a dryer
Instead of using your A/C, cool your home with fans
Junk, don't throw it out, donate it, fix it or recycle it
Keep electronic items unplugged if they're not used often
Lower your thermostat while you're gone or sleeping
Make you own cleaners and soaps
Minimize gas usage by planning car trips
Mulch your garden: lower the need to water and reduce weeds
Never litter
Plant deciduous trees to shade sun facing windows
Quit using dangerous chemicals
Reduce the temperature on your water heater
Switch shower heads to low flow
Turn the water off when you brush your teeth
Use CFL or LED light bulbs and programmable thermostats
Walk or bike whenever possible
Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible
Yard waste, use it to fertilize your plants
