THE Best Chili I Ever Made

As you may know, I am trying to help my family eat healthier. I finely chopped many vegetables and added them to the meat mixture. I didn't tell them what I put in it until they all finished their meals. They were raving about it too. There was so much deep, robust flavor I just HAD to come and share it with you.

I browned about a pound and a half of hamburger in a non-stick skillet, w/o any oil. I'm sure ground turkey would have been a healthier option, but I'm trying to ease into the flavor changes gradually. Maybe next time?

The meat cooked in it's natural fats. Once some of the fat had cooked out of the meat, I added (all finely chopped in my Pampered Chef Food Chopper prior to adding to the meat)1/2 of a white onion, 1/2 of a green pepper, 2 of MIL's small jars of canned tomatoes, 3 radishes, and 5 stalks of celery.

Cook until vegetables are tender. Then I drained the fat (which I'm saving for a future soap making project) and added it to the crock pot. I also added 1 can dark red kidney beans, 1 can chili beans, 2 cans tomato sauce, and 2 cans of tomatoes.

Cook on high for 3-5 hours covered. Stir occassionally. Serve and enjoy.

Thank you for stopping by. Please leave me a message and a backlink. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Cindy

Sounds great. I have hidden swiss chard in chili and spagetti sauce. They never did figure it out.

Sometimes you got to sneak them in anyway you can right? I have gone so far as to grate carrots and sneak them into spaghetti sauce to get my boys to eat them when they were littler. Sounds like your chili went over well! :-)

You go girl! Next time it will be zucchini in the sauce! Is it count down to the first days of school?

Deb- Good idea! I am also trying to sneak veggies into Cheesehead's diet, so once I start I'll never stop! He's VERY picky. I hope my other trials go this well.

Cindy- That's right. I like to add extra carrots to carrot cake as well as sweet breads. I think everyone had two servings, so I'd say it was a BIG hit. Yay me!

Gail- That reminds me, they actually DO like zucchini bread. I should make that sometime too.

I haven't had to start counting down yet (knock on wood) since the kids haven't been arguing too badly. I wonder if that means the hodag will come for another visit.

Sounds yummy to me! I am the chili queen as I have entered contest and won top prize! Yippee, sorry to boast but a gal must gloat at times...

Chili has so many seasonings in it that you can hid all kinds of good stuff in there. Spaghetti sauce also!

On talking turkey, I cooked something using Ground Turkey while my parents were visiting. The topic of turkey came up and my mom went on and on about how she did not like ground turkey, while eating my dish! I cannot recall what the dish was but the look on her face after dinner when I let the cat out of the bag was priceless! I cook with a lot of Garlic powder, season salt and onions and they seem to really perk up a dish…

Skeeter- Being a prize winner is awesome. This was SO good. I had what little leftovers there were for lunch today. MMM. I think this could win a contest too.

I am trying to figure out how to be a more flavorful cook. It will take some time, but this recipe is a keeper for sure!

Good grief, I must be loosing my mind, I've been by several time and thought I let you know your chili looks wonderful! You should try it with ground turkey, your family won't even know the difference and it will taste the same with hardly any fat. Mmmm
